Sophie Reimer Gaskamp, 101, of Brenham, died Sept. 20, 2006, at Trinity Care Center in Brenham. Mrs. Gaskamp was born Sept. 1, 1905, in the Hoddeville community of Washington County, Texas, to Herman and Wilhelmina Schiller Reimer. She was baptized Nov. 12, 1905, in St. Peter s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill and was confirmed Aug. 8, 1920, in the same church. Mrs. Gaskamp attended Hoddeville School. On Oct. 30, 1927, she was married to Edward Gaskamp in St. Peter s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill. She was a lifelong member and oldest member of St. Peter s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill, where she taught Sunday school for many years, was in the choir and was active in the Ladies Aid. Mrs. Gaskamp was a housewife and a farmer. Survivors include one son, Melvin Gaskamp and wife Bernice of Brenham; one daughter, Esther Gaskamp of Brenham; daughter-in-law, Sylvia Gaskamp of Brenham; sister-in-law, Lydia Gaskamp of Brenham; 10 grandchildren, Daniel Gaskamp and wife Teresa, Jeanette Harrison and husband Philip, Janice Rinn and husband John, Jimmy Gaskamp and wife Leslie, Peggy Schwarze and husband Lloyd, Donald Gaskamp and wife Ginny, Judy Finke and husband Jimmy, Lorri Wilkening and husband Mark, Patrick Gaskamp and wife Joyce, and Lee Gaskamp; 26 great-grandchildren, Misti Schumate and husband Ron, Mindy Vinklarek and husband Jeramie, Stephanie Atkins and husband Will, James Harrison, Amy Schwarze, Andi Scarbrough, Melanie Gaskamp, Steve Gaskamp and wife Crystal, Lee Huntsman and wife Jana, Heather Pratt, Chad Schwarze, Dustin Huntsman, Eric Gaskamp, Ashley Kokemoor and husband Kyle, Blake Schwarze, John Harrison, Aimee Scarbrough, Jennifer Huntsman, Jordan Gaskamp, Jonathan Gaskamp, Jericka Gaskamp, Sarah Gaskamp, Samantha Gaskamp, Jake Gaskamp, Andrew Finke and Sam Gaskamp; five great-great-grandchildren, Hanna Vinklarek, Parker Atkins, Mark Vinklarek, Kaylee Kokemoor and Kylee Kokemoor; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Gaskamp; her son, Emil Gaskamp; her parents; three brothers; and four sisters. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 22 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23 at St. Peter s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill with Pastor Virgil Pecht officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Daniel Gaskamp, Donald Gaskamp, Lee Gaskamp, Philip Harrison, Mark Wilkening, John Rinn, Jimmy Gaskamp Patrick Gaskamp and Lloyd Schwarze. All her great-grandchildren will be considered honorary pallbearers. Memorials may be given to St. Peter s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill.
