Sudie (Sue) Lee Cottingham passed away at her home with her husband by her side on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at the age of 91. She was born in Rosedale, MS to Robert and Mildred Bullock on November 16, 1931.
Sue attended schools and college in Mississippi majoring in finance. While attending high school she met the love of her life turning a corner and literally running into a fine young man and literally dropping their books (just like the movies).
Sue married Charles Louis Cottingham on October 8, 1955. Since Charles was in the Air Force their honeymoon consisted of a trip to their new home in San Antonio, TX. She had a career in bookkeeping until their move to Brenham in 1967. When they moved to Brenham Sue found her love of helping children in both Brenham Elementary and First Baptist Church School and continued until retirement.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Charles Louis Cottingham, daughter, Susan; sons, Michael, Patrick and Robert and their spouses; brother-in-law, Michael; grandchildren, Kristie, Sarah, Jennifer, Christopher, Mary, Michael, Samuel, Kathryn, James, Aaron and Zachary; eight great grandchildren and one special fur baby, Sandy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, two brothers-in-laws, one sister-in-law and one grandchild, Elizabeth.
Sue loved traveling the USA, Europe, and Mexico with her family. After retirement she and Charles traveled around the country in their motorhome volunteering at numerous National, State, and Corps of Engineering Parks. She met many friends along the way and enjoyed hiking the many trails and exploring the parks with Charles.
The family would like to thank Dr Pierce, Accent Home Health Nurses that helped care for her the last few months and especially the nurses at Brazos Valley Hospice that cared for Sue the last couple weeks of her life.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 3rd from 7AM-7PM with family available for visitors from 5PM-7PM at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday August 4th at First Baptist Church, 304 N. Market Street, downtown with internment to follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery.
