Sybil Kumaga

Sybil Kumaga, 89, passed away Friday, November 29, 2019, in Brenham.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 3, 2019, at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Lawrence Bade officiating. Burial will be at the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, December 2, 2019, at Memorial Oaks Chapel.

Sybil was born on February 25, 1930, to Frank and Emilie (Meyer) Krenek. She married John Kumaga on April 23, 1947, at St. John Catholic Church in Fayetteville, Texas. As a child and into her adulthood life, and even in her old age she enjoyed talking Czech to anyone, especially her favorite nurse at Focused Care “Celeste”. Sybil could speak 5 languages: English, German, Czech, Polish, and Bohemian. Sybil was the youngest of six children.

Sybil truly treasured her time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The special highlights in her life were spending times coloring and playing dominoes with her great-grandchildren. She also taught her daughters how to garden and fish.

Sybil was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Sons of Hermann of Gay Hill.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Jo Ann and Gene Draehn, and Susan and Larry Henske; grandchildren and their spouses, Tricia and Jody Kalmbach and Terri and Clayton Geisendorff; great-grandchildren, Shelby Geisendorff, Tanna Furry, Corbin Geisendorff, Bodie Furry, Kristen and Chad Siegmund, and Ashton Kalmbach; great-great-grandchildren, Conrad and Sawyer Siegmund; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Rick and Diane Merkel, Robert Ladewig, and Lynn and Glenda Pieper.

Sybil was preceded in death by her husband, John Kumaga; her fiance’, Henry Moeller, son-in-law, Larry Parker; parents, Frank and Emilie Krenek; infant brother, John Krenek; infant sister, Mary Krenek; brothers, Frank Krenek Jr. and Lad Krenek Sr.; sisters, Claudia Kaiser Machu and Lillian Brenner Homann; brothers and sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers are Dawson Kaiser, Stewart Kaiser, Justin Gajewski, John Chovanec, Patrick Chovanec and David Chovanec. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church or Hospice Brazos Valley.

Funeral arrangements for Sybil Kumaga are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham, 979-836-4564.
