Sylvia Ann Bernhardt Ashorn, 80, of Burton, Texas, passed away on November 8, 2024 in College Station, Texas. Sylvia was born on July 2, 1944 to Walter and Mildred Finke Bernhardt in Brenham and was baptized on August 27, 1944.
Sylvia was a graduate of Sam Houston High School. She met her future husband, Olan Ashorn, at the Bill Mraz Dance Hall and they were united in marriage on June 13, 1964. Joining their family were their sons, Brian and Russell. She served as a Special Education Teacher's Assistant for many years.
Gardening, landscaping, antiquing, dancing, traveling and serving as a volunteer at church were favorite activities she enjoyed. Many good times were spent playing games into the early morning hours with friends. She was a wildflower enthusiast and hosted many family members and friends for holidays, birthdays and celebrations. She especially enjoyed making specialized dishes for each grandchild.
Sylvia is survived by her husband of 60 years, Olan; her sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Lisa Ashorn and Russell and Amy Ashorn; grandchildren, Justin (Chanze), Courtney (Michael), JT (Kayla), Kristen (Fiancé Tevin), Kaylee and Trista; and great-grandchildren, Zoey, Paislee, Tommy, Cade and Allie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Mildred Bernhardt.
A visitation for Mrs. Ashorn will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel, Brenham, Texas. Funeral services will be on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem with Pastor Joe Leavengood officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers assisting with the service will be Justin Ashorn, JT Ashorn, Gary Ashorn, John Muery, Wesley Russell and Mark Jakubik.
