Sylvia Ann Meschewitz Jurica, of Brenham, TX, passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, September 14, 2024. She was 73. Sylvia, affectionately known during her years as Cookie and later as Grandma, was a native Texan, born on September 3, 1951 to Edward and Annie Houdek Meschewitz. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's in Brenham. Sylvia was united in marriage to George Joe Jurica, Jr. on November 11, 1972 at St. Mary's in Brenham.
George and Sylvia made Brenham their home in 1977 in Sandy Creek Estates, where they built their family home and raised their two children, Holly and Brett. Sylvia spent many years working at numerous Brenham businesses including : Toy Box Daycare, Sears, Bode and Tonn, and Brenham ISD. She loved being able to help take care of her grandchildren in their early years and could be found supporting them in all their extracurricular activities.
Sylvia leaves behind her husband of 51 years, George, her son and daughter-in-law, Brett and Elizabeth Jurica, daughter, Holly Jurica, and 5 grandchildren, Juli Jurica, Sarah and Zein Fakhri, Eleanor and Bridgette Jurica, brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Gayle Meschewitz, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary Ann and Laddie Barcak and Maragret and Joe Koudelka along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 18 with a Rosary beginning at 6:30 p.m. The funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 19 at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham with Darrin Holub, Officiant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Pallbearers include: Juli Jurica, Sarah Fakhri, Zein Fakhri, Luis Cutz, Michael Long and Danny Matthews.
Honorary Pallbearer are Grant Meschewitz, Lori and John Wessinger and Neighbors of Sandy Creek Estates.
The family would like to thank Fresenius Dialysis, SMS Home Health, Washington County EMS and the staff at Baylor Scott and White for their continued care of Sylvia over the years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Washington County EMS.
