Mrs. Rust was born June 25, 1929, in Greenvine, Washington County, Texas, to Herman August and Emma Bertha (Jaster) Stroech. She was baptized August 4, 1929 and was confirmed February 7, 1943, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine.
On August 6, 1950, she was married to Gus A. Rust at Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine. Mrs. Rust was a homemaker, and was previously employed for 25+ years by Palais Royal Stores, located in Austin, later retired in Brenham.
Teckla's love for family and children brought to her first profession as a child care provider at home, taking care of many babies and children. She also worked hard as a cafeteria worker while her daughters attended school in Alvin, Texas. After her first child, Glenda, was born in Brenham, the family moved to Alvin. Both Teckla and Gus planted multitude of vegetables and fruits, as well as cattle farming.
In 1973, the family moved to Austin when Teckla started working at Palais Royal. In the late 80's, the family moved to Brenham when Teckla continued working at Palais Royal and later retired. She always worked hard and loved by all. March 1999, the family endured the loss of Glenda which affected them tremendously, especially Teckla. Her faith in the Lord and love of her second daughter, Arlene, helped carry her through. August 2013, Teckla lost her husband, Gus, which brought Teckla and Arlene closer. Shopping and baking were fun times together, as well as watching Dancing with the Stars. April 2015, Teckla and her dog, Bailey, moved to Argent Court Assisted Living. This was a life-changing event for her. Last Christmas Eve church service was a special time for Teckla and Arlene, singing wonderful hymns and opening gifts. Few days later Teckla took ill with cancer. She moved to Kruse Village Nursing Home for clinical nursing care. April 2016, she moved to BNRC which provided her with a variety of activities and met many friends she knew there. Teckla always spoke well of others, loved her family and friends. She had a smile that brightened your day. She will be dearly missed.
Some of her hobbies were: love of gardening, planting flowers, picking pecans, collecting bird figurines, crocheting and quilting. Teckla loved the Lord and church family by serving others through activities of Ladies Aide which included visiting nursing homes, preparing meals, baking goodies for weddings and funerals. Afternoons were not complete until she had her coffee and sweets.
She is survived by her daughter, Arlene Rust of Houston, Texas, and sister-in-law Nita Stroech, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gus A. Rust, and daughter, Glenda F. Rust. Also, preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Emma Stroech, sisters and brothers-in-law, Hulda and Herbert Kluck, Esther and Walter Lueck, Erna and Ben Hahn, and brothers and sister-in law, Willie Stroech, Herman and Louise Stroech.
