Thomas Eldon Bailey, Sr., of Burton, was born Sept. 20, 1930, in Fort Worth, to John Edwin Sr. and Leona Gertrude Sessinghaus Bailey, and returned to God on Nov. 2, 2004. He was baptized as an infant in Fort Worth and was confirmed in Houston. Mr. Bailey graduated from St. Thomas High School and was a graduate of Texas A&M University, class of 1952. On May 17, 1965, he married Betty Jeannine Gilliam in Dallas. He retired in Brenham after being employed as a Petroleum Engineer. Mr. Bailey was an Aggie fan, a model railroader, loved his dogs and loved working on his land. Survivors include his wife, Jeannine Bailey of Burton; children, Tommy Bailey and wife Cheryl of Flint, Mike Bailey of Granbury, Cindy Bailey of Pearland, Mark Bailey and wife Iryna of Pearland, Greg Bailey of Plano, Jennifer Bailey of Seattle, and Kim Bailey of Houston; brother, J. Ed Bailey Jr. of Arlington; sister, Sister Mary Kay Bailey, OP of Water Valley; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He had seven nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Mr. Bailey was preceded in death by his parents. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6 in St. Mary s Catholic Church in Brenham with Father David Ivey, celebrant. Interment will follow in La Bahia Cemetery, near Burton, Texas.. A vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, led by Sister Mary Kay Bailey, OP at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham. 979-836-4564.
