Thomas Keith Baten, 87, of Burton, Texas, died April 27, 2014 at St. Joseph Regional Health Center of Bryan, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Memorial Oaks Chapel, with Reverend Troy Sikes officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Burton. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home Tuesday April 29, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. He was born on June 16, 1926 to Thomas Key and Vivian Argetha Lovelace Baten in Fargo, Oklahoma. He was baptized and accepted Christ and salvation as an adult in 1949 at the Baptist Church in Canyon Tex. Mr. Baten served his country in the U. S. Army during World War ll. He spent 18 months in Hiroshima after the bombing, and later transferred to Nagasaki, where he served as a short wave radio operator. A graduate of West Texas University and Texas A & M University, he received degrees in music. He played in the college jazz band, marching band, the stage orchestra, and was a member of the Amarillo Symphonic Orchestra. Mr. Baten was an Administrator of Education for a number of years. He was a member of Church of Christ in Giddings. On December 6, 1969 Keith was married to Beulah McGlaun. She preceded him in death on October 9, 2008. Also preceding him in death were his parents and a sister. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-laws W.A. "Billy" and Carol McGlaun of Early Texas, and Jason Lee and Daeng McGlaun from Ingleside, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law Rosemarie McGlaun and Bobby Proctor of Ft. Worth and Pamela McGlaun and Tom Murski of Brenham; grandchildren: Willie McGlaun IV and wife Melinda, Aaron McGlaun, Robert Proctor and wife Megan, Russell Proctor and wife Nickie, Ryan Proctor and wife Cassie, Christopher McGlaun, Michael McGlaun, Ying McGlaun Morgan and husband Chris, Will Murski and Zachary Murski; great-grandchildren: Zyler Proctor, Lillyanne Proctor, Matthew-Jon Proctor, Nolan Proctor, Lillian Morgan, and Rowan Murski; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Johnnie and Patsy Neal of Coleman, James Neal of Conroe, and Sando and Janice Neal of Conroe, and Shirley Gene Neal Glasgow of Conroe. Serving as pallbearers are his grandsons. Memorials may be given to Bread Partners of Brenham or the Washington Co. EMS. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W.
