Funeral services for Thomas Bernell Pitts, of Brenham, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 11, 2015 at First Baptist Church Chappell Hill, with Brother David Beckworth officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives Friday evening at Memorial Oaks Chapel from 5 until 7 p.m. Mr. Pitts, the husband of Frances Scardino Pitts, passed away April 8, 2015 in College Station, at the age of 85 years. Thomas Pitts was born June 8, 1929 in Laurel, MS to Azzie and Ida Jane Butler Pitts. After graduating high school, he served his country in the U. S. Army and the Army Reserves. On March 16, 1974, he married Frances Scardino. Mr. Pitts was a rancher and retired business owner in Washington County, operating T&F Early Wine Store on Hwy. 105 for many years. Thomas was extremely proud of his family and loved his wife dearly. As an avid outdoorsman, he checked his cattle daily, and often attended area cattle auctions. He was an outgoing and friendly man, and met with his friends for coffee each Wednesday at Randerman''s Store. Other pastimes included listening to country and gospel music and watching RFD T.V. and weekly t.v. church programs. Survivors include his wife, Frances, of Brenham; son and daughter-in-law Thomas H. and Carolann.; daughters and sons-in-law Emily Kay and Terry, and Carrie and Kent; grandchildren: Kim, J.R. and Betsey, Cassidy and Jeff, Bradie, Lynsy and Dustin, Gerran and Amy, Dusty and Alma, Cris and Nikki, Blaine, and Abby; great-grandchildren: Skylar, Shane, Kia, Kane, Brittany, Mason, Beau, Josie, McKinlee, Calvin, Savanna, Lindsey, Nolan, Faith, Gerran, Jr., Emma, Leland, Hayden, Greyson, and Noah; brothers George and the late Jeanette, and Charles and Judy; sisters Lois, Azeline, Bonnie and William, Jo, Ann and Randal. He is also survived by his favorite dog, Chrissy. Mr. Pitts was preceded in death by Azzie Pitts, Ida Jane Butler Pitts, Raymond and Dorothy, L J. and June, Donnie and Willa, Robert, and Baby boy Pitts, and one sister, Betty. Serving as pallbearers are Dustin Meier, Cris Marek, Brian Marek, Dusty Banik, Gerran Banik, Robert Meier, Kent Andrews, and J. R. Powell. In lieu of flowers please make donation in Tom''s name to First Baptist Church Chappell Hill for the Children''s Ministry.
