Tillie Mary Broz Schmidt, 97, the widow of Erwin Schmidt, died Thursday, April 10, 2014 in Brenham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Tillie was born August 25, 1916 in Bleiblerville, Texas to John F. and Frances Pilcik Broz. She was baptized September 3, 1916 by Father Josef Hanak, and confirmed May 14, 1933, both in Industry, Texas. Tillie was married to Erwin Ernest Schmidt on July 22, 1944 in Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Frelsburg, Texas by Rev. Edward Gieser. Tillie and Erwin were married for 66 years. Together they owned and operated Schmidt Garage in Industry, Texas. They loved farming and raising cattle on their family farm, as well as the outdoors and fishing along the Texas Gulf Coast with their children. She enjoyed gardening vegetables and flowers as well as cooking, baking and sewing. Tillie was a faithful member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Industry and Altar Society. Tillie was the caregiver of the church cemetery and gave many loving hours to its beautification. She was instrumental in the cemetery''s transformation from cultivated soil to grass, as in its current state. She was preceded in death by her parents, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry and Ella Schmidt, husband, brother, Joe Plasek, and brother and sister-in-law John and Georgia Broz. Survivors of her loving family are her daughter and son-in-law Dorothy and Adolph Wehmeyer of Brenham; son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Jomaye Schmidt of Brenham; Granddaughters, Debbie Wehmeyer of Brenham, Blair Schmidt of Brenham and Brenna Schmidt of Houston. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Eddie and Marie Broz of Bleiblerville. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham, Texas. Funeral Mass for Tillie Schmidt will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Industry with Father Tim Bucek officiating. Burial will be in the Industry Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Industry or Hospice of Brazos Valley.
