Tony Lett

Tony Joe Lett, 60, husband of Sharon "Bitsy" Lett, went home to be with the Lord on December 4, 2011 in Scott and White Hospital in Temple. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011 in Martin Luther Lutheran Church of Carmine, with Pastor David Van Velter officiating, assisted by Sgt. Daniel Gaskamp. Burial will take place in the Carmine City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 until 7:30 Friday evening at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Tony Lett was born March 7, 1951 in Stamford, Texas to George Hugh and Betty Jo Jody Crews Starnes Lett. He dedicated his life to the Lord beginning in 1957, and remained a Christian throughout his life. Tony was a true born-again spiritual Christian who fought a very courageous battle due to many serious health issues. For 5 years he was known as a "Miracle Man" to his doctors and nurses. He was truly a hero to everyone. On Sept. 9, 1972, he was married to Sharon Ullrich, and they enjoyed over 39 years together. Survivors include his wife, Sharon "Bitsy" Ullrich Lett; daughters and sons-in-law Tiffany and Keith Brooks, Tasha and Jason Ladewig, and Charity and Bradley Shiflett; grandchildren: Jayden and Jacob Ladewig, Avery and Addison Brooks, Alexa Jade Lett, and Wyatt Shiflett; brothers Keith Lett, and Wallace Johnson and wife Vicki; sister and brother-in-law Sherry and Terry Maxwell. Other surviving relatives include his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Douglas and Sedalia Ullrich; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Anson and Fritzi Jones; brother-in-law, Charlie Adamcik; nieces and nephews: Jake and Tara Maxwell, Billy and Suzanne Maxwell, Gus and Nikki Sanchez, Douglas and Johanna Ullrich, Cherie and Lyle Lester, Cindy Adamcik, and Logynn Northrup. Special family friends include Sgt. Daniel Gaskamp and family, the Jessie Jackson family, the Ron and Carol Gallway family, Carole Boeker, Cindy and Kenneth Schulze, Lindi and Kenneth Braddock, Darren and Miranda May, and Ms. Dodie, Pastor Joel and Victoria Osteen. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Heather Krista Lett; mother, Betty Jo Starnes, father, George Hugh Lett; grandparents: Joe and Mae Crews, and Otto and Trena Ullrich, and sister-in-law, Carole Adamcik. Tony''s family cherished and loved him, and he loved them all more than words can say. He was their "Pop"; he made them laugh, and had a nickname for each of his grandchildren. Tony was a man of many accomplishments. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps and later served in the Reserve Unit in Galveston, ending his years of inactive duty and reserve duty as a Sergeant of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of the Lakewood Church, as well as the Elks Lodge. He was a former member of the Masons, Shriners, and Scottish Rite organizations. Tony also attended Blinn College, majoring in criminology. He then attended and graduated top of his class from the Texas A&M Police Academy. Hired by the Brenham Police Dept., he used his badge to protect and serve the citizens of Brenham, enforcing his duties with a pure, compassionate Christian heart. He worked for the Brenham Police Dept. for many years, and during that time of service he was promoted to the first Plain Clothes Detective in Brenham. With the help of Jesus, he solved many cases. He also served as a Washington Co. Jailer, Washington Co. Sheriff''s Deputy, a Deputy Constable for Harris Co., in addition to serving as a police officer in Somerville and Burton. Last but not least, Tony also worked as a Private Investigator for a company in Houston. Serving as pallbearers are Investigator Floyd Mathis, Sgt. Mike Janecek, Asst. Chief Jay Petrash, Lt. Billy Rich, Sgt. Brad Kulow, Deputy Sheriff Faye Janes, Deputy Sheriff Richard Johnson, and Lt. Billy Ruemke. Honorary pallbearers are Billy Bryant, Deputy Sheriff Curtis Kulow, Raymond Thaler, Bill Mays, and Larry Klehm, as well as all fellow law enforcement officers that Tony had the honor to work with.
