Velma Penkert

Velma Neutzler Penkert, 89, of Burton, died Feb. 27, 2005, in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham. Mrs. Penkert was born July 31, 1915, in Burton, Texas, to Otto J. and Hedwig Krause Neutzler. She was baptized Jan. 16, 1916, in Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Greenvine and was confirmed April 13, 1915 in the same church. She attended Boundary School. On March 27, 1938, she married Edward H. Penkert in Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Greenvine. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Edward H. Penkert of Burton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Oran Neutzler, Elmer and Lillie Neutzler and Wilburn Neutzler, all of Brenham; sister, Elvera Schmidt of Burton; and sisters-in-law, Evelyn Neutzler of Burton and Erna Mae Neutzler of Somerville. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, one sister and nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 2 in Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Greenvine with Pastor Pam Werrell officiating. Burial will be in the Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 1 in Foehner Funeral Home in Burton. Pallbearers will be Keith Schmidt, Nelson Neutzler, Val Gene Neutzler, Lloyd Neutzler, Ben Novosad, Curtis Wendler, Jack Schramm and Delbert Schmidt. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Schmidt, Roger Eckert, Larry Stork, Tommy Sager, Leonard Penkert and Harry Penkert. Memorials may be given to Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Greenvine. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Foehner Funeral Home in Burton.
