Vera Hodde

Vera Louise Hodde, 96, of Houston, died May 21, 2003, in Houston. Vera was born Aug. 6, 1906, in the Prairie Hill community of Washington County, to Edward and Caroline Franke Struwe. She was baptized Aug. 16, 1906 in St. John s Lutheran Church in Prairie Hill and was confirmed Sept. 26, 1920 in the same church. She was educated in Prairie Hill School and Blinn College. On Aug. 6, 1930, she married Arthur Hodde in St. Paul s Lutheran Church in Brenham. She did sales work in Brenham and was employed for 29 years at Foley s in Houston. Vera enjoyed her family and her work. After retiring, she enjoyed her volunteer work at Trinity Lutheran Church in Houston. Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Patricia Hodde of Houston; granddaughters, Barbara Carol Featherston and husband Donald of San Antonio and Amy Colleen Hodde of Houston; and great-grandsons, Stuart Joseph Featherston and Ryan Blake Featherston. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Caroline Struwe; husband, Arthur Hodde; son, Arthur E. Hodde; brothers, Willie Struwe, Walter Struwe and Edward Struwe; sisters, Emma Schlottmann, Linda Quebe, Minnie Reue, Hannah Schmidt, Rosie Struwe and Ida Struwe; and granddaughter, Bonnie Sue Hodde. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 24 in Memorial Oaks Chapel with Pastor Donald Black officiating. Burial will be in the Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. The family will receive visitors at Memorial Oaks Chapel from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 23. Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church, 800 Houston Ave., Houston, TX 77007-7792.
