Verde Pomykal

Funeral services for Verde Pomykal, 83, husband of Janet Pomykal, are scheduled for 2 p.m., Sunday, July 21, 2013 in Wesley Brethren Church, with Pastor Michael Groseclose officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m., Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Mr. Pomykal passed away July 18, 2013 in Christus Dubuis Hospital in Bryan. Verde Pomykal was born Sept. 8, 1929 in Wesley to Joe and Vlasta Mikeska Pomykal. He was baptized and confirmed in Wesley Brethren Church., and attended area schools. On Sept. 16, 1950, he married Janet Weiss in Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine, and they made their home in the Brenham area. Mr. Pomykal served the Washington County area for many years as a water well driller. Favorite pastimes were coastal fishing, hunting, and traveling. He was also active in his church. Survivors include his wife, Janet Pomykal; daughters Theresa Clay and husband Phil of Cameron, and Elizabeth Pomykal, and Kathie Boehnemann, both of Brenham; brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Elinor Pomykal of Fredericksburg; sister Janette Kelley of Castle Rock, Colo., and sister-in-law, Annie Pomykal of Brenham. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law and husband, Natalia and Paul Van Meter of Kingman, Arizona, and an aunt, Viola Lawson of Brenham. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law, Larry Boehnemann, brother, Frank Pomykal, as well as brothers-in-law Don Kelly and Lilburn Weiss. Serving as pallbearers Brian Long, Brant Oertli, Stephen Boehnemann, Josh Hadley, Fermin Garcia, Dylan Ingham, Wes Stewart. and Zachary Smith. Memorials may be directed to Wesley Brethren Church, or to the Wesley Cemetery Fund.
