Verline (Mayer) Kunkel Schulte, 92, of Carmine, died Sunday, May 22, 2022 in Brenham.
A visitation will be held from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at Memorial Oaks Chapel.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 26, 2022 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church of Carmine with Pastor David Tinker officiating. Burial will follow at La Bahia Cemetery.
Verline was born June 18, 1929 in the Shelby community of Austin County, Texas, the daughter of Willie John Fritz Mayer and Irene Muske. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith October 3, 1929 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Shelby and confirmed in the same church September 10, 1944.
On February 22, 1948, she was married to Wilbert Kunkel and they were blessed with four sons. They remained married for almost 39 years until Wilbert’s passing on November 10, 1986. Several years following, Verline met Philip Schulte and she married Philip Schulte May 5, 1990. They shared 20 years together until his death on August 9, 2010.
Verline graduated from RTC High School and Blinn College. She was a member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Friendship Quilting Guild, and the Ladies Aide. She was also very committed to being a part of the Bible study group at her church.
Verline is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald Kunkel and wife Becky of Warrenton, TX, Randy Kunkel and wife Gayle of Brenham, TX, and Larry Kunkel of Carmine, TX; sisters and brother-in-law, Carolyn Schutte and husband Bill of New Ulm, TX, and Beatrice Krimm of Caldwell, TX; grandchildren, Ricky Kunkel, Michael Kunkel, Cindy Kunkel, Kaci Bradford and husband Charlie, Kolin Kunkel and wife Amy, and Sierra Kunkel; great-grandchildren, Andrew Kunkel, Tyler Kunkel, Kourtney, Klaire, and Kase Kunkel; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands; son, Billy Kunkel; and sister, Dorothy Longbotham.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ricky Kunkel, Michael Kunkel, Kolin Kunkel, and Tyler Kunkel.
Memorials may be directed to Martin Luther Lutheran Church of Carmine.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main Street, Brenham, TX 77833.
