Verlyn Marie (Schulze) Finke, 76, of Brenham, loving wife of Onis Finke, went to be with the Lord on January 11, 2016 in College Station.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Grace Lutheran Church. Pastors Matthew Jacobs and William Holzer will officiate. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main in Brenham.
Verlyn Finke was born August 24, 1939 in Brenham to Edwin H. and Emma Witt Schulze. She was baptized and later confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill. A 1958 graduate of Brenham High School, Verlyn married Onis Finke on July 9, 1960 at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill.
Verlyn was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church, and a former member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Houston. At Grace, she was a member of the Ladies Afternoon Circle, where she held numerous offices and positions. She was also active in the P.T.A. during her children''s younger years. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, and helped with catering for numerous years. Verlyn especially treasured time spent with her grandchildren. Dancing, gardening, and watching baseball with Onis were favorite pastimes.
Survivors include her husband, Onis Finke of Brenham; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Pam Finke of Brenham, and Rodney and Jill Finke of Houston; daughter and son-in-law Becky and Steve Folsom of Brenham; grandchildren: Brent Folsom and special friend Jenny Bilski, Clay Finke, Bryan Folsom and wife Haley, Bradley Folsom and special friend Jenna Krebs, Ryan Finke and Grant Finke; great-grandchild Hunter Folsom, and soon-to-be-born Folsom twins; sisters Elvera Janner, Ruth Duvall and husband Clyde (Hank); sisters-in-law; Lorna Finke, Joy Finke and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Leonard and Sandra Finke, and Eva and Gene Supak. Additional survivors are numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Edwin and Emma Schulze, parents-in-law Fritz and Lena Finke; brothers-in-law Raymond Finke, Earl Abke, Ivan Finke, and Milton Janner, and sister-in-law, Irene Abke.
Serving as pallbearers are her grandsons: Brent Folsom, Clay Finke, Bryan Folsom, Bradley Folsom, Ryan Finke, and Grant Finke. Hunter Folsom will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
Memorials may be directed to Grace Lutheran Church.
