Verna Mae Bergmann

May 8, 1932 — July 24, 2024

Verna Mae Hermansen Bergmann passed away on July 24, 2024 in Haughton, Louisiana.

Verna Hermansen was born May 8, 1932 in Boardman, Wisconsin, the second of four children to Adolph and Carmen Hermansen.

After high school she attended nursing school at Kahler Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota. She then attended the University of Minnesota to earn a degree in Public Health Nursing. After working three years as the county nurse in Mora, Minnesota she joined the Air Force Nurse Corps. She served at bases in Portland, Oregon; Naha, Okinawa and Grand Forks, North Dakota.

There she met Fred Bergmann. They married in May 1965. Their honeymoon was a trip to Texas to meet the Bergmann family. They were happily married for 50 years! Fred and Verna adopted Matthew and Lisle in North Dakota.

Fred was assigned to Barksdale, AFB in Bossier City, Louisiana in 1968. Good-bye North Dakota. Verna worked at Bossier Medical Center for about 20 years.

Fred and Verna retired to Burton, TX in 1994. They had 15 wonderful years there. Being a docent at the International Festival Institute in Round Top, a volunteer and curtain maker at Camp for All, and a quilter at St. John's Church of Christ in Burton were some enjoyable activities.

Verna accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior while in nursing school. Two classmates from Iowa led her to the Lord. She was greatly blessed her whole life.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Melinda Bergmann; daughter and son-in-law, Lisle and Frank Gorney; brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and Louise Hermansen; sister Lillian Schillberg and grandchildren, Hannah Bergmann, Andrew Bergmann and Abigail Meador.

Preceding Verna in death were her husband, Fred H. Bergmann; parents, Adolph and Carmen Hermansen and sister Mildred Hendrickson.
