Vernice Barker

Vernice Ida Barker of Brenham, Texas passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 with loved ones at her side. She is survived by her daughter Ruth Ann Rhodes and daughter Jeannette Wuellner and husband Gayne Wuellner, son Connard Edwin Barker and wife Sherry Barker, daughter-in-law Betty Barker, sisters Myrtle Grabarschick and Dorothy Schulenberg, grandchildren Carolyn McDougald, Douglas Barker, Lisa Petrosky, Autumn Barker, Michelle D. Steward, Bret Wuellner, Bevery Wuellner, Cody Barker and Chase Barker, 12 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and two special friends, Corrine and Jennifer. Vernice was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Annie Landua, her husband Connard Edward Barker, her sister Catherine Kaechler, son Edward Barker, and grandson Timothy Barker. She was born on March 11, 1921 to Robert and Annie Landua. Her parents were longtime residents of the Burton area. Vernice worked for the Fort Bend County ISD food services for 22 years. Other places of employment include Christ Lutheran Day School in Brenham, Higgins Branch Hospice, and mentoring children at Brenham Elementary. Vernice was a member for First Baptist Church of Brenham for twenty one years. She was in the Joy class, the Senior Saints, and the Joyful Sound. She was a member of the Red Hat Society of Brenham. Vernice was an excellent seamstress. She spent many hours with family and friends creating over 50 quilts. Vernice was an avid gardener and always surrounded herself with beautiful plants both inside and outside her home. She loved her family and treasured the times spent with them. Funeral services to be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 5, 2015 at First Baptist Church, 304 N. Market St., Brenham, TX and Interment at Morton Cemetery, 410 N 2nd Street, Richmond, Texas at 3:00 p.m. Pallbearers are Bobby Grabarschick, James Schulenberg, Tommy Kammerer, David Blakey Sr., Douglas Barker, Cody Barker, Chase Barker, and Bret Wuellner.
