Vernon Burfiend

Vernon Alvin Burfiend, 80, husband of Charlene Burfiend, died August 27, 2012 in Brenham. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., August 29, 2012 at Memorial Oaks Chapel, with Pastor Larry Embry officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Vernon was born November 26, 1931 in Noodle, Texas to Pete Compere and Belle Saphronia Rogers Burfiend. On September 8, 1951, he was married to Charlene Madison. Vernon was employed as a Mud Engineer and Pumper in the oilfield industry. A lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge of Hobbs, NM, and the Elks Lodge of Brenham, Vernon was also a member of the Brenham Country Club for many years prior to becoming ill. He is a member of Fannin Terrace Baptist Church of Midland, TX. Survivors include his wife, Charlene Madison Burfiend of Brenham; daughters Ginger Waldrop and husband Rick of Spicewood, and Sandra Campbell of Brenham, and a brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Tommie Jean Burfiend of Merkel, TX, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, J. W. Burfiend. Members of the Brenham BPOE #979 will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be directed to the Brenham Elks Club.
