Vernon Cummins

Vernon Odell Cummins, 83, of Elgin, died July 12, 2005, in Brenham. Mr. Cummins was born May 26, 1921, in Plantersville, Texas, to George and Sally Grace Nixon Cummins. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On November 29, 1945, he was married to Margaret Knappick in San Antonio. Mr. Cummins was employed as a crane operator at Armco Steel for 37 years. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Cummins of Elgin; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie Lynn and Valarie Cummins of Chappell Hill and Kenneth and Loyce Cummins of Bastrop; one daughter and son-in-law, Lavern and Paul Humphries of Conroe; five brothers; one sister; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers and one sister. The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 16 in San Jacinto Memorial Funeral Home in Houston. Burial will be in San Jacinto Memorial Park. His grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be given to the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
