My love of 38 years, Vernon Ross “Jack” Taylor passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, while in Kruse Village in Brenham, Texas. His love of family will always be uppermost in our hearts and he will be missed greatly.
Jack was born September 10, 1928 to Marcella and Ross Taylor in St. Louis, Missouri. That union also gave Jack one sister, Beverly Joan “Jill”, who as children became Jack and Jill. The nicknames stuck as adults throughout their lives. Jack attended High School in Cuero, Tx, South Western University, Georgetown, Tx., University of Houston College of Pharmacy and graduated with a Pharmacy Degree. He was also with Army Medical, 98th General Hospital, Munich Germany during the Korean war.
Jack married Vallie Fletcher right before he went to Germany. They were married for 32 years and during that union, Sheryl, Autumn, Keith and Jordan were born. During that time, they lived in Pasadena, Tx. He built Taylor Pharmacy and was a pharmacist for 25 years. He made a move to Lake Jackson, Tx. when he sold his Pharmacy, wanting to have a new experience. He bought Krause Office Supply and Gifts which he ran and owned for 20 years. He had fun with that store. He had a great mind for details and at the time was very involved with the Lake Jackson and Freeport area. He had a Real Estate Brokers License for many years. He was a man of many talents and interest.
In 1984 he married Sandra Smith and they had a wonderful life together. They loved to snow ski, spend time at the deer lease, go on cruises together, which several of their grandchildren accompanied them on. They also went on several Partner in Mission Trips through the Methodist church in Coldspring, Tx. Jack was also a Barefoot Water Skier, and a Scuba Dive Master. He led several Hostel Trips on scuba adventures. He also had his Pilot’s License with over 800 flying hours. Lake Jackson was home for them for many years, and they retired together in Coldspring, Tx. to enjoy retirement on Lake Livingston. They also had a Bayou Home where they enjoyed boating on Bastrop Bayou. That weekend home was sold and they moved their boat to Lake Livingston. Family and friends enjoyed playing, fishing and exploring the area. They had four acres and decided to purchase a horse, Leo. Then Leo needed a friend, so Misty was purchased. They did trail rides and enjoyed that time together. They also purchased Sassy, Molly Bee Bee who came with a colt. Sassy was bred and then came Annie. They were Missouri Fox Trotters with the exception of Misty, a Quarter horse. That was when they moved to Brenham, TX., with more land for their horses. They lived in the Old Washington area for a number of years tending to their horses, raising hay and enjoying country life. Sparky, donkey, and dogs and cats filled their lives. They made their final move to Brenham, Tx. in 2016. Jack had health issues after their move into town and their lives slowed down a lot. He went into Kruse Village where he was treated so kindly by staff and workers, Erica, Caroline, Juanita and so many others were such a blessing to our family. Amedisys Hospice caregivers were so nice, and so attentive during his stay, I can not say enough good things about the care and concern that was shown to him. Our friend, Beverly McFarland, was God sent to us. She was his caretaker for over a year at our home and stayed with him at Kruse also. She will forever be loved by our family. Her love and care for Mr. Jack was wonderful.
He will be greatly missed by his children, Sheryl and husband, James, Autumn and husband, Mark, Keith and Jordan. His stepchildren, Whitney and husband, Scott, Wesley and wife, Lana. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. They are Christian Latham and wife, Kelsey, Pierce Latham and wife, Allie, Kayti Englehardt and husband, James, Tyler Richter and wife, Kasumi, Ian Richter and wife, Mia, Hailey Richter, Baylie Taylor, Haylie Brown, Taylor Brown, Peyton Smith and Zachary Smith. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Colby Richter, Caden Englehardt, Jordan Brown and LeRoy Dean Richter. Sandy’s sister, Lana Sutherland, her boys, Ryan Sutherland and Trevor Sutherland and wife, Nina, all of which hold him in their hearts.
Those that passed before him are his parents, Ross and Marcella Taylor; sister, Beverly “Jill” Hudack; grandsons, Andrew Latham and Vallie Taylor; Sandy’s parents, Robert and Vauneta Hand.
This was a man full of adventure and life, always learning new things and full of fun including jokes. He will be greatly missed and loved forever by all.
As he always said, Sandy was the love of his life and he felt that he lived a most fortunate life. He loved Christ, his church and helping people.
