Vernon V. Gaskamp, 87, of Brenham passed away on September 27,2023. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 1, 2023 from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm with family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Funeral service will be Monday, October 2, 2023 at 10:00 am at the Nelsonville Brethren Church with Pastor Mike Groseclose officiating. Burial will follow at the National Cemetery in Nelsonville.
Vernon was born on September 22, 1936 to Edwin August Gaskamp and Emma Glaesmann Gaskamp in Brenham. He was Baptized and Confirmed in the Lutheran faith He proudly served in the army from October 28, 1959 to February 2, 1962 and was stationed in Toul, France. On April 4, 1964 he was united in marriage to Jeanette Schovajsa in the Nelsonville Brethren Church by Rev. Henry Beseda. They were marred for 48 years until her passing on June 28, 2012. The marriage was blessed with two sons, Brian Keith born on March 28, 1967 and Bruce Keven born on October 27, 1971.
Vernon was employed at Blue Bell for 42 years retiring in 2005. He was a member of the Nelsonville Brethren Church. For over 20 years him and his wife were avid supporters of Salem VFD, they were the couple that filled the BBQ sauce cups for all of the fundraisers. His hobbies included gardening and fishing and he loved watching the Brenham Cubs and Cubettes sports along with the Houston Astros. He enjoyed relaxing while enjoying his daily Bud Light.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, four brothers and sisters-in-law, Erwin and Olivia Gaskamp, Leroy and Katherine Gaskamp, Gilbert and Erna Gaskamp, Alton and Winnie Gaskamp; sister and brother-in-law, Mandy and Melvin Schulze; infant brother, Harry Gaskamp.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son and wife, Brian and Stacey Eldridge Gaskamp and son, Bruce Gaskamp and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Fran Borgstedt, Jerrell Schovjsa, Jerry Hoff, Ronald Bentke, Larry Gaskamp and Ray Weiss.
Honorary Pallbearers will be nieces and nephews, Janice, Joyce, Judy, Larry, Rob, Karen, Carla, Ervin Jr., Linda, Barbara, Tara, Connie and Dr. Willam Loesch, M.D.
Memorials in honor of Vernon can be given to the Nelsonville Brethren Church or the charity of your choice.
