Vickie Marie Kaechler Hertel, 57, wife of Charles Hertel, died November 1, 2010 at The Care Center in Brenham. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 4 at Salem Lutheran Church of Welcome, with Pastor David Klack officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. The family will receive friends and relatives at Memorial Oaks Chapel from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3. Vickie kept the faith to the end, and finished her purpose on earth. Her enjoyment came from spending time with her family, most especially, playing with her granddaughter, Elizabeth. Vickie was a blessing and will be truly missed by her family and all who knew her. The family wants to extend their continued love and gratitude to all of her special friends who gave her support throughout her illness. Born December 12, 1952 in Brenham to Johnnie and Ida Marie Bentke Kaechler, Vickie was a graduate of Brenham High School, and a member of Salem Lutheran Church of Welcome. She was baptized January 11, 1953 in Salem Lutheran Church of Welcome and was confirmed April 3, 1966 in the same church. On March 27, 1976, she was married to Charles W. Hertel in Salem Lutheran Church of Welcome. Prior to her illness, she was employed by Germania Insurance Co. Vickie enjoyed watching game shows such as Price Is Right and Wheel of Fortune and loved riding through the country and looking at wildflowers. Survivors include her husband, Charles Hertel of Brenham; daughter and son-in-law, Dawn Marie and Michael Paul Williams III of Cypress; granddaughter, Elizabeth Marie Williams; brother and sister-in-law, Carson and Elizabeth Kaechler of Cypress; sister and brother-in-law, Shun-Dale and Rick Federwisch of Brenham; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Glenwood and Willie Mae Hertel, and Gayle Lynn and Daniel Engeling, all of Brenham; nieces and nephews: Anne Marie Kaechler, Lindsey Lange, Derek Federwisch, Kaci Federwisch, Todd Hertel, Craig Engeling, Jeri Bentke, and Lance Engeling, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, great-nieces and nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie and Ida Marie Kaechler; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Willie and Lila Hertel; and numerous aunts and uncles. Serving as pallbearers are Derek Federwisch, Jason Lange, Teri Schulz, Todd Hertel, Lance Engeling and Ronald Bentke. Frank Nowak and all cousins will be considered as honorary pallbearers. Memorials may be directed to Salem Lutheran Church of Welcome, St. Joseph Cancer Center or a charity of your choice.
