Viola F. Giese, 97, widow of Marvin Giese, passed away July 2, 2016 in Brenham.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, July 10, 2016 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Pastor Phil Fenton officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. The Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Oaks Chapel.
Viola Giese, affectionately known as “Baby” to her family and friends, was born May 1, 1919 in the Zionsville Community of Washington County, Texas to parents Otto F. and Meta Neinast Kieke. She was baptized June 15, 1919 at Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville, and confirmed there May 29, 1934. Viola attended the Harrisburg School near Zionsville.
On Nov. 14, 1936, she was married to Marvin Giese in Brenham. She was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham until her death.
Viola worked at Foley’s and Joske’s Dept. Store for a number of years. She lovingly cared for her family as a homemaker. Always ready and willing to help, she selflessly put the needs of others above her own.
Quilting and playing pitch were favorite pastimes. A special interest was attending and organizing garage sales. Viola also enjoyed trips to the casinos in Louisiana with her friends.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law James and Dorothy Giese of College Station; Charles and Deanna Giese, and Wayne and Claudia Giese, all of Brenham; grandchildren: Leah and Lee McCabe, Vanessa and Donald Schwab, Sheridan and Jeff Slocumb, Erin C. Giese, Lance and Shannon Giese, Troy and Stephanie Giese, Todd Giese, Laton and Jane Anne Giese, and Eric Wayne Giese; great-grandchildren: Kaylee McCabe, Kassidy McCabe, Kai Giese, Kade Giese, Lydia Giese, Lincoln Giese, Samantha, Savannah, and Sierra Schwab, Tyler Giese, and Jeremy Slocumb. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin Giese; son, Marvin Eugene Giese; brothers Alvin, V.C., and Fred, and sisters Tillie, Elda, Esther, and Lillie.
Serving as pallbearers are grandsons Lance Giese, Laton Giese, Todd Giese, Troy Giese, Eric Giese, Lee McCabe, Donald Schwab, and Jeff Slocumb.
Memorials may be directed to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church or to Hospice Brazos Valley.
