Viola Warmke

Viola Warmke, 97, of Brenham, died Dec. 13, 2019, in Brenham.

Funeral services for Viola Warmke will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19 at Welcome Lutheran Church of Welcome with Pastor John Sutton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to service time Thursday, Dec. 19 at the church. Public viewing will begin at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17 at Memorial Oaks Chapel.

Mrs. Warmke was born March 26, 1922, in Bleiblerville, Austin County, TX, to Fritz and Annie (Richter) Krueger. She was baptized and confirmed at Welcome Lutheran Church and attended Victoria School in Bleiblerville.

On Oct. 21, 1945, she was married to Ed Sander, who preceded her in death on April 6, 1978.

On July 23, 1983, she was married to Raymond Warmke Sr., who preceded her in death on Feb. 19, 1995.

Mrs. Warmke was a life member of Welcome Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Mary Martha Circle. She and her husband Ed Sander formerly owned Sander’s Café and Sander’s Produce Co.

Since 1945, Mrs. Warmke was a member of the Texas Extension Education Club and was named the Outstanding Extension Homemaker Lifetime in 1994. She worked at the Washington County Fair in the Country Creations Building, judged exhibits and in 2014 served as the fair parade marshal. She was also a member of the Pilot Club since 1982 and the Brenham Hermann Sons Life.

Mrs. Warmke also enjoyed playing bingo, cards and dominoes, attending the area music opry, dancing and traveling, especially to Branson, MO.

Survivors include her stepson, Ray Warmke, Jr. and wife Ana of Brenham; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husbands and an infant brother Bethold Krueger.

Pallbearers will be Scott Schumann, Brian Schumann, Michael Schovajsa, Ervin Sander, Donald Lee Sander and Travis Ray Sander.

Relatives and friends will be considered honorary pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Welcome Lutheran Church or the Welcome Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund.
