Virginia "Ginny" Elverson Welch, a beloved member of the Burton community, passed away on May 3, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and dedication. Born on March 22, 1950, in Houston, TX, to Robin Andrew Elverson and Virginia Lee Thompson, Ginny's life was marked by a deep connection to nature and a passion for nurturing its beauty.
Ginny pursued her education at Florida Southern University, where she earned a bachelor's degree, laying the foundation for her career as a skilled landscaper. Her hands transformed countless gardens and green spaces, each one bearing the imprint of her creativity and care.
On January 13, 1979, Ginny embarked on a lifelong journey of love and companionship when she married her husband, Patrick Duane Welch. Together, they shared joys, sorrows, and countless cherished memories until Patrick's passing.
Ginny's commitment to her community extended beyond her professional endeavors. She was an active member of the Houston Junior League, where she contributed her time and energy to various charitable initiatives. Her dedication to environmental conservation led her to become involved with the Texas Master Naturalists and Dark Sky International, organizations close to her heart.
In her family life, Ginny found immeasurable joy and fulfillment. She is survived by her loving daughter, Virginia Lee Welch, of Charlotte, NC, and partner James Adam Kowalke, as well as her daughter Elizabeth "Lizzy" Elverson Welch of Round Top, TX. Additionally, she is remembered fondly by her brother, Devitt James Elverson of Breezy Point, NY.
Ginny's passing leaves a void in the lives of all who knew her, but her spirit will continue to shine brightly through the memories she created and the lives she touched. She is reunited in eternal peace with her beloved husband, Patrick, and her parents, Robin Andrew and Virginia Elverson.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 9, 2024 at St. Cecilia’s Church in Round Top, TX. Reception will follow at the Halles in Round Top, TX.
