Virginia Wehrung, 97, of Brenham, died March 3, 2013, at Gazebo Terrace Convalescent Center in Brenham. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, March 6 at 2:00 p.m. at Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham with Rev. Brent Hampton and Rev. Jim McCloud officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 5 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Mrs. Wehrung was born May 29, 1915, in Howth, Waller County, Texas, to Richard Ernest and Amelia Lange Hamner. She was a 1931 graduate of Raymondville High School. In May, 1940, she was married to George W. Wehrung, III. They moved to the Phillipsburg community, near Brenham, in 1946. Mrs. Wehrung retired from the Department of Human Services. She was an active member of Brenham Presbyterian Church, Washington County Heritage Society and the Herb Society, serving as its Rosemary chair. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, George IV and Julia Wehrung of Chappell Hill; grandchildren, George Wehrung V of North Carolina and Ann Marie Brown of Ontario, Canada; great-grandchildren, George W. Wehrung VI, Hailey Jensen, Nicholas Wehrung and Sydney Wehrung. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Sam Richard Hamner, Turner Findley Hamner, and Joe Edward Hamner, and a sister, Mahlah Hamner Allen. Memorials may be given to Hospice Brazos Valley. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., Brenham.
