Wanda Faye Wilkes, 81, widow of Nelson Wilkes, died Saturday, October 13, 2007 in Kruse Memorial Village in Brenham. Mrs. Wilkes was born November 4, 1925 in Amarillo, Texas to Ola Mae Kennedy and Leon Miller, Sr. On May 20, 1953, she married Nelson Wilkes in Galena Park, Texas. Mrs. Wilkes was employed as a civil servant for most of her career, working for the V.A. Hospital in Houston, the Social Security Administration, and NASA. She is survived by her daughter, Betty Barnes and husband Dave of Cedar Park; brother Leon Miller and wife Margaret; sisters Linda Hume and husband Don, and Pat Charlesworth and husband John; two step-grandsons in Scotland, Ian and Paul Barnes, and one step-great-grandchild due in Scotland in late November. Mrs. Wilkes was a long-time member of Park Place United Methodist Church in Houston, and more recently First United Church in Brenham. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and NARFE. Her husband and her parents preceded her in death. A celebration of Wanda s life will be held Sunday, October 28, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Brenham, with Pastor Terry Dougherty officiating. Memorials may be directed to the Lance Armstrong Foundation, National Processing Center, P. O. Box 6003, Albert Lea, MN. 56007-6603. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.
