Mr. Ward Dillard, 92, of Brenham, passed away on May 15, 2021.


For those that wish to pay their respects, Mr. Dillard will lie in state for viewing from 12:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, May 21, at Memorial Oaks Chapel. On Saturday, May 22, the family will be present from 12:00 pm until 3:00 pm for visitation. At 3:00 pm, there will be a time for sharing tributes and eulogies.

Burial services will be held privately at Houston National Cemetery.


Mr. Ward Watkin Dillard, Jr, was born May 29, 1928 in Washington County, TX

Parents: Ward W. Dillard, SR, and Rosa Lea Dillard

Education: Graduate of Pickard High School, Washington County, TX

Graduate of Prairie View A&M University

Prairie View, TX with a Degree in Agriculture.

Ward JR served as an Agriculture teacher in the Maynard School District.

Military Service: Ward JR completed a term of military service in the United States Army, fighting in the Korean War and receiving an honorable discharge for his service.

He made his home in California for thirty-nine years. He was employed by the United State Postal Service for over thirty years in Oakland, CA. Ward JR returned home to Brenham, TX in 1989 after his retirement. He spent a great deal of his time farming and enjoying his life.

Church Affiliation: Ward JR accepted Christ at an early age, and was a loyal, and devoted Christian. He was a faithful member of Missionary Camp Baptist Church-Navasota, TX, Pastor James Mable.

Marital Union: Married Ms. Ruth Henderson, of Brenham, TX to this union two children were born.

Children: Connie Darden, Ward Dillard, III, (Kathy), Carolyn Darlene Sterling-DeRouselle,

Grandchildren: Dejuan Darden, Jamie Darden, Takila Shonte Robinson-James, Derris Dillard, Chutney Dillard, Ashely Dillard.

Great Grandchildren: Hadari, Lakeisha, Amari, Dontre, Glynitria, Derris JR, Jayla, Jayda, Jayden, Patrick, JR, Derria.

Great - Great Grandchildren: Everett Jamial, Alyjah

Siblings: Leatha (Dillard) Evans, Lenora (Dillard) Goodman, Patricia (Dillard) Hawkin (Leroy), Charles Dillard (Ann)

Nieces, and Nephews: Marion J, Tammy, Joshua, Nila Rosa Lea, Khandra,

Devoted Caring Friend of twenty- six years, Lenora Dabney

A Great Friend, James Maxey

Ward, JR, was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister Ada B. (Dillard) Williams. He leaves in God’s care his family, and many other relatives and friends.
