Wayde A. Hamrick, 73, died Friday, May 13, 2016, as the result of a boating accident in Oldenburg in Fayette County. Wayde was a loving devoted father, grandfather, avid fisherman and boater, and he died doing what he loved.
He was born September 14, 1942, in Texas City, Texas, where he grew up. He attended Sam Houston State University, was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, and was graduated in 1966.
After graduation, he married Cynthia Knight, and they moved to Houston where he worked for Allstate Insurance Company. In 1979 they moved to Brenham to realize his dream of opening an independent insurance agency, Wayde Hamrick Associates. He was later associated with Norwood Lange Insurance and had been semi-retired since 2000.
Wayde is survived by his loving family: wife Cynthia, children Susan and Brian Eastland of Lake Jackson, and Anne Tarwater of Boerne, and grandchildren, Chase Elizabeth Eastland, Cullen Eastland, Reese Tarwater and Lillian Grace Tarwater. Also surviving him are nephew Richard Hawkins of Dayton, niece Karen Skelton and family of Bossier City, Louisiana, and brother-and sister-in-law Bill and Gloria Knight of Powder Springs, Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Brock and Frances Hamrick, and sister, Joyce Ann Hawkins.
Wayde was a member and past president of the Brenham Rotary Club and charter member and past president of the Washington County Rotary Club. He served as a director of the Chamber of Commerce and was the Red Cross director of emergency response, a member of the Heritage Society of Washington County, First United Methodist Church, and was president of the Board of Directors of Camp for All Camp Friends.
Visitation with the family will be at Memorial Oaks Chapel from 6 - 8 Tuesday evening, with the funeral at First United Methodist Church at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Galveston County Memorial Cemetery in Hitchcock. Pallbearers are Brian Eastland, Cullen Eastland, Richard Hawkins, lifelong friends Tom Drummond and Larry Porter, and members of the Washington County Scuba Diving and Fishing Association Steve Hunter, Gregg Appel, John Hermann, Kaylor Coonse, and Dick Neal. Honorary pallbearer is Ebert Steele.
Memorials may be made to the Heritage Society of Washington County.
