Wayne Hesterly

Wayne Hampton Hesterly, 94, died Feb. 11, 2013 in Mississippi. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Memorial Oaks Chapel, with Pastor David Beckworth officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery in Chappell Hill. The family will receive friends and relatives at Memorial Oaks Chapel prior to the service, beginning at 10 a.m. Mr. Hesterly was born October 14, 1918 in Bluffton, AR to Dr. Elijah Hampton Hesterly and Lula Mae Hughes Hesterly. After completing high school and college, he was employed as a Purchasing Agent in the petroleum industry, and was fortunate to be able to live in Tripoli, Libya, Spain, West Africa, The Netherlands and London, England. Accolades included the Sons of Republic of Texas "Distinguished Service Award" in 1995, and in 2008, the Chappell Hill Chamber of Commerce "Lifetime Achievement Award". He was a devout Mason, being 32nd Degree, a Shriner, and a long-time member of the local Hubert Lodge. He also received a certificate of appreciation from Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Other memberships included the Hubert Masonic Lodge, Dixie Club, and the Masonic Cemetery Association. Wayne worked tirelessly in the restoration of the Masonic Cemetery in Chappell Hill, which was featured on the television program "Eyes of Texas". Mr. Hesterly was a veteran of WWII, serving as a navigator/bombardier with the 391st Bomb Squad of the Air Force, based in Matching Green, England. He was honored to have flown seven missions over Omaha Beach on D-Day. After flying 53 missions, he returned to the United States where he was honorably discharged in 1944. Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Eddy Wiley Hesterly; a son, Gary Hampton Hesterly and wife Rosemary of Houston, and daughter Frances Francey Margaret Killian of Natchez, MS; grandchildren: Dr. James Hampton Killian and wife, Dr. Lisa Suggs Killian of San Francisco, California, Chef John Taylor Killian of Bloomington, Indiana, and Sean Hampton Hesterly of Houston, and a great grandchild, Taylor Christine Killian of San Francisco, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Margaret Fry Hesterly; parents Dr. Elijah Hampton Hesterly and Lula Mae Hughes Hesterly; brothers Elijah Harold Hesterly, Ellis Lloyd Eddie Hesterly, and Kenneth Hesterly; sisters Doris Faye Hesterly Glasgow. Serving as pallbearers are Leonard Cloud, Jerry Lane, John Gunn, Jerry Jackson, John Watson, Tom Yates, and honorary pallbearer, Al Newman.
