Weldon Finke, age 73 of Brenham, husband of Sherri (Weiss) Finke, passed away September 26, 2019, at Baylor Scott & White in College Station.
Weldon was born on December 23, 1945, in Brenham, Texas, to Louis C. and Elma (Dannhaus) Finke. He was baptized on March 10, 1946, at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill, and later confirmed in the same church on April 17, 1960. On January 27, 1973, he married Sherri Weiss, the daughter of Herman (Bubba) Weiss Jr. and LaVerne (Janner) Weiss, at Grace Lutheran Church of Brenham. Together, they were members of St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill for many years, and more recently, became members of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham.
He was educated in the Brenham public schools, before deciding to join the U. S. Army, where he served his Country for six years and obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served two tours in Vietnam, where he earned a Purple Heart for injuries received on the battlefield and received numerous other medals for all of his military accomplishments. He was proud, but reserved in speaking about his service and experiences in the military.
Weldon was employed by the U. S. Postal Service for over 42 years, initially in Houston, and then in Brenham from 1984, until his retirement in July 2014. Referred to as “Buddy” by his coworkers, he was faithful to his job and rarely missed a day of work.
As a proud husband, father, and PoPo, he was very faithful to his family. Although he was a man of few words, Weldon thoroughly treasured the time he spent with his family and was a big part of their lives. Among other things, his love showed through his dedication and commitment to make it to every sporting event and activity for his children and grandchildren. He was a big supporter of Brenham Athletics, and enjoyed attending baseball and football games. Weldon also looked forward to the occasional vacations to Louisiana with Sherri and good friends, Steve and Judy Avis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis C. and Elma (Dannhaus) Finke and father-in-law, Herman (Bubba) Weiss Jr.; sister and brother-in-law, Delores and Etzel Wiesepape; brother, Floyd Finke; sister, Shirley Finke; sister-in-law, Linda Finke; brother-in-law, Lloyd Allen Weiss, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
