Wilbert Lee Richter

Wilbert Lee Richter, 77, of Brenham, passed away on Monday, January 17, 2022 at home in Brenham, after a lengthy illness with cancer.
Wilbert, a lifelong resident of Washington County, was born on July 6, 1944 to Wilbert A. and Mildred Kramer Richter. He graduated from Brenham High School and married his high school sweetheart, Connie Oppermann. They were married for 55 wonderful years. Wilbert was a lifetime member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill. For twenty-four years, he worked for the Santa Fe Tie and Treating Plant in Somerville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching his deer, barbecuing, Texas Aggie football, Houston Astros baseball, and spending time with his family.
Most especially, he was proud of his three children and his eight grandchildren and rarely missed an opportunity to be part of special events in their lives.
He was preceded in death by his father, niece Mindy Richter Moses, sisters-in-law Joyce Toellner and Linda Oppermann, and brother-in-law, Norman Toellner.
Wilbert is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Connie Diane Oppermann Richter; sons Clayton Richter and wife Glynda of Helotes, Jeffrey Richter and wife Amie of San Antonio; daughter Raschel York and husband Scott of Somerville; his grandchildren, Harrison Richter of Alexandria, Virginia, Gretchen Richter of Houston, Peighton Richter of Dallas, Madeline Richter of Helotes, Ellie Richter of College Station, William Richter of Grand Forks, North Dakota, Lillie Richter of San Antonio, and Alex York of Somerville. He is also survived by his mother Mildred Kramer Richter of Brenham; brother Dennis Richter and wife Patty of Bellville, brother James Richter and wife Joyce of Brenham, brother-in-law Jimmy H. Oppermann of Lyons, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
In lieu of flowers, your memorial donations may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley or St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill – General Fund. Special thanks to the employees of The Cancer Clinic in Bryan and Hospice Brazos Valley for taking such good care of him.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill, 8201 Old Gay Hill Rd, Brenham.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main Street, Brenham, TX 77833.
