William Eugene Cohnen

May 7, 1964 — June 8, 2021

Houston

William (Bill) Eugene Cohnen, 57, died June 8, 2021 at home in Houston, TX, after his battle with cancer. He was born May 7, 1964 in Springfield, IL to Melvin Laverne Cohnen and Carol Weatherbee Cohnen of Springfield and lived most of his life in Houston, TX. Bill was the youngest son of Melvin and Carol and survived by his mother, Carol Cohnen and his siblings Connie Cohnen Mancini and husband Dan Mancini of Florida, Alan Laverne Cohnen and wife Pam Cohnen of Waller, TX, and Alana Cohnen Roberts and husband Terry Roberts of Montgomery, TX as well as several nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his father Melvin Cohnen in 2020.

While Bill never married, he enjoyed being an uncle and treasured numerous friendships. He was known to be a hard worker and respected by his employers and co-workers. He was an avid cook and enjoyed car shows, action movies, and was always up for political discussions. Bill was a bit of a rebel, but also a survivor. He suffered birth defects which left him handicapped, but he persevered, living far beyond the teen years as predicted by his heart surgeons in the 1960s. A few years before his passing, Bill suffered an incident with his heart after which he received a defibrillator. God was not done with him yet, as he accepted the Lord as his Savior mere weeks before his death.

Burial and a graveside service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 10:00am at Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham, TX, officiated by Pastor Darrin Holub of Burton, TX. Service will be followed by an intimate gathering of immediate family only.
