William McGregor Harris, born November 8, 1930, passed away on March 18, 2010 at the age of 79. He was born in New York City, where he lived until he left to go to Augusta Military Academy, where he played on the Virginia State Champion football team in 1948. He attended the University of Texas on a football scholarship, was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He served in the United States Army. Bill was a life insurance agent in Houston for 40 years. Bill and Frances owned the Heart of My Heart Ranch Bed and Breakfast in Round Top, Texas where they made their home for 30 years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who had a larger than life personality, a great sense of humor, and he loved to tell stories. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, who loved him dearly. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Frances Puett Harris; ;his daughter and son-in-law, Irene and Steve Read; his son and daughter-in-law, Cavan and Janet Harris; his stepchildren: Charles Black and wife Cindy; Jim Black and wife Janie, Molly Black and husband Scott Elrod, and Amelia Black; his grandchildaren: Paul Lycan, John Harris, Stephenia Riojas, Lauren Harris, Tamara Paiar, Emily Black-Elrod, Elizabeth Black, Nelson Black, and Jordan Pelien. He is also survived by his brother, Robert L. Harris and wife Shirley, and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at St. Peter''s Episcopal Church in Brenham at 3:00, Monday, March 22, 2010.
