William Joe Smith, 88, died June 19, 2019 in College Station.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, June 22, 2019 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill, with Pastor Skip Stutts officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at Memorial Oaks Chapel.
William Joe Smith was born March 5, 1931 in the Prairie Hill Community of Washington County to Clara (Schmidt) and W. G. Cotton. On Nov. 10, 1951, he was married to Lois Studhalter. He was an owner of a water proofing and roofing construction company for 40 years in Houston.
Joe loved spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing and farming his land. He treasured his John Deere tractors and his Model A Ford Coupe.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Smith of Brenham; sons and daughters-in-law Jimmy and Louise Smith of Caldwell, and Robert and Dianne Smith of Brenham; sister-in-law Katherine Studhalter of Sugarland; nephew, Mike Luckenbill of Sugarland; grandchildren: Jeremy and Liz Smith, Brian and Kristyn Smith, Katie Smith, Angie Gottschall, Ben Gottschall, and Bobbi Jo Gottschall; great-grandchildren: Easton Smith, William Hoyt Smith, Kylie Gottschall, Ashley Lindsey and Allison Lindsey great-great granddaughter Jesslyn Crosby. Also surviving are numerous cousins and other relatives.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother-in-law, Joe Boy Studhalter.
Serving as pallbearers are Jeremy Smith, Brian Smith, Jim Blott, Mike Luckenbill, Charles Lee Tucker and Ben Gottschall. Honorary pallbearers are Frank Kelly and Frank Robilio.
The family wishes to thank caregivers Ricklynn Gaines, Tina Richmond, Margie Brown, and Birdie Tyler.
Memorials may be directed to a fund to repair stained glass at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill.
