William Odell Stein, 77, of Brenham, known to his friends and relatives, as ”Odell”, died February 10, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Regional Health Center in Bryan, TX. He was the widower of Marilyn (Grebe) Stein.
The funeral service for Odell Stein will be on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Pastor Brianna Merkle officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will be held on Monday, February 12, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel.
Odell was born on May 25, 1940 to Willie Gus and Ruby Emma “Wunderlich” Stein. He was
baptized on August 11, 1940 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, and confirmed at the same church. Odell married Marilyn Grebe on June 3, 1961 at Nelsonville Brethren Church. He was a member of Salem VFD and of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. He loved to visit with his grandkids, play cards or dominoes, raise cattle, and drink a few beers.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Russell and Evelyn Stein, and Darrell and Rose Stein, all of Brenham; grandchildren: Bridget Stein, Dalton Stein, Sydney Stein and Bryce Stein; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Reuben Earl and Gladys Grebe; nephews: Tim and Beth Grebe and family, and Greg and Shelly Grebe and family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Grebe Stein; his parents, W.G. and Ruby Stein; parents-in-law Reuben and Vlasta Grebe, and a brother-in-law, Sidney Grebe.
Serving as pallbearers are Tim Grebe, Greg Grebe, Dennis Zuehlke, Bradley Chernosky, Kris Sommers, Calvin Boecker, Duane Boecker, and Patrick Northway. Honorary pallbearers are Adolph Wehmeyer, Melvin Winkelmann, Donnie Wensel, Wilfred Krause, and Willie Wood, his card playing buddies, members of Salem VFD, Cattlemann’s Auction, Brenham L-P gas employees, and the Kaase Reunion cookers.
