Willie Prigge, Jr.

Willie Prigge, Jr., 79, of Brenham, died August 11, 2016, at Scott and White Hospital in Brenham.

The funeral service for Willie Prigge, Jr. will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 15, at St. John's United Church of Christ in Burton with Rev. Risa Garza officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 14 at Memorial Oaks Chapel.

Mr. Prigge was born January 12, 1937, in Brenham, Washington County, TX, to Willie Sr. and Augusta (Oberhoff) Prigge. He was baptized March 28, 1937 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill and was confirmed in 1952 in St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill.

On February 22, 1957, he was married to Jackie Marie Grote. Mr. Prigge was owner of P&R Catering and enjoyed 35 years of catering with his partners and family for Washington and surrounding counties. He was formerly employed as a surveyor for Pledger Kalkomey and Don Muzzy and also worked for Blue Bell Creameries and Kirby Lehrmann Cotton Co. He was a member and past president of St. John's United Church of Christ in Burton. He was also a member of the Brenham Elks Lodge #979, where he was a past exalted ruler and was currently serving as trustee. He was also a member of the American Legion.

An avid sports enthusiast, Mr. Prigge was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, played for the Brenham Cubs and the semi-pro team Knickerbockers. In 1980 he was inducted into the South Central Texas Semi-Pro Baseball Hall of Fame. He loved to watch his grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in all sports.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Kenton and Sharon Prigge of Burton; son-in-law, Don Hooks of Brenham; grandchildren: Michael Hooks, Jordan Prigge, Brock Prigge, Kyle Hooks and Morgan Prigge; great-grandchildren, Carter Prigge, Parker Prigge, Aiden Prigge-Mathis and Paisley Hooks; sisters and brother-in-law, Evelyn and David Buck and Edna Roehling; and sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Erma Luetge, Joyce Grote and Bill and Arminda Grote.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie Prigge; daughter, Anne Prigge Hooks; parents, Willie Sr. and Augusta Prigge; brothers, John Prigge and LeRoy Prigge; and sisters, Lenora Westerman, Myrtle Johnson and Bernita Adkison.

Pallbearers will be Jordan Prigge, Brock Prigge, Morgan Prigge, Michael Hooks, Kyle Hooks, Dr. Robert Stark, Rev. Glen Schoeneberg, David Vasquez, Jennifer Hermann, Nathan Wooten, Kenny Presswood and Larry White.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gus Mutscher, Jr., David Roehling, Leon Januszewski, Charlie Adamcik, Beth Stark, all past exalted rulers of Brenham Lodge #979 and past elders of St. John's United Church of Christ.

Memorials may be directed to St. John's United Church of Christ in Burton or St. John's United Church of Christ Sunday school.
