Willis Drews

Willis Drews, 83, of Brenham, passed away on Friday January 19, 2024.

Willis was born August 11, 1940 in Burton, Texas to Dick and Ruby Hewitt Drews As an infant he was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church in Burton and later confirmed there. He graduated from Brenham High School. He met Florence Warmke at Shelby Dance Hall and they were married October 14, 1962 at Welcome Lutheran Church. They were members of Salem Lutheran Church.

At an early age, Willis started working as a mechanic at several automotive shops in Brenham. He started at Western Auto, and later worked for LaRoche Chevrolet in Brenham for twenty years. He then opened Drews Automotive.

He kept busy later in life delivering papers for the Houston Chronicle and the Banner Press, retiring after 15 years. During his retirement, Willis stayed active by working at the Westwood carwash for the next several years. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Florence Drews, his parents, infant son Doyle Drews, granddaughter Kaitlyn Drews, brother Ray Drews, Sr., brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jerry and Carolyn Warmke and niece Cammie Ganske.

He is survived by son Darrell Drews and Kim Kopecky.

Visitation will be Wednesday January 24, 2024, with family present from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main Street, Brenham, Texas.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm Thursday January 25, 2024 at Salem Lutheran Church in Brenham. Burial will follow in Salem Lutheran Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Cabin Warmke, David M Stevenson, Jack Fischer, Todd Poehlmann, Tom Parker, and Kevin Burnett.

Honorary Pallbearers are Billie Schmidt, Gene Van Zandt, Scott Drews and Cris Cook.

Memorials are requested to Salem Lutheran Church and Salem Lutheran Cemetery.
