Wilton Hodde

February 29, 1924 — August 12, 2012

Wilton Clarence Hodde of Burton died Sunday, August 12, 2012 at the age of 88. He was known by family and friends as "Pop". Born February 29, 1924 to Henry and Annie Witschorke Hodde, he was raised in the LaBahia area of Washington County. He attended Boundary School and was a lifetime member of St. John''s United Church of Christ in Burton. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 15, 2012, with Pastor Glen Schoeneberg officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives Tuesday evening from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. at Foehner Funeral Home in Burton. Mr. Hodde will be in state at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham until 9 a.m. Tuesday, and afterwards, at Foehner Funeral Home in Burton until service time. After serving his country in WWII, he returned to the LaBahia area, marrying Janice Bathe on Dec. 4, 1950. Hard work and dedication kept the family farm going while also finding time for baseball games, raising successful 4-H projects and making education a priority for their four children: Joan, Diana, Charles and Rodney. Pop took great pride in the farm, especially the hogs. Charles and his sons now carry on the legacy with pride. Pop enjoyed meeting and talking to new friends, days at the Washington County Fair, visits and meals with family and friends. His garden kept us all busy every spring. He could ride through the countryside and reminisce about his work with the Soil Conservation Service and the people he met through that work. Hardly a day would pass without sharing coffee with friends and checking his cows. Preceding him in death were his wife, Janice, his parents, his sisters Allyne Jaster and Anna Dell Blum, and grandsons Ben and Shaun Hodde. Survivors are Joan and Gary Goebel, Diana and Larry Glenz, Charles and Jodell Hodde, and Rodney and Jill Hodde. Pop was very proud of his grandchildren Gretchen and Brian Peterson, Jason and Lauren Hodde, Garrison Goebel, and Micah Milliorn, Sam and Angie Hodde, Genna and Chad Lechler, Kyle Hodde, Meghan and Ross Windham, Whitney Glenz, Brooke Hodde, Ryan Bailey, Jon Hodde and Michelle Roehling. The newest joys of his life were his great-grandchildren, Houston Hodde, Brock Peterson, Natalie Hodde and Harper Hodde. His surviving siblings are Lorena Hodde, Erwin Hodde, Vera Lehde and husband Calvin, Dorothy Eberhardt, and brother-in-law Raymond Blum. He will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Pop will be carried to his final resting place by his grandchildren. Memorials may be directed to St. John''s United Church of Christ or to the Burton High Scholarship Fund. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Foehner Funeral Home in Burton.
