Zelma Neidig

Zelma Mae Neidig, 85, of Round Top died April 11, 2007, at Silver Pines Nursing Facility in Bastrop. Mrs. Neidig was born Nov. 30, 1921, in Jackson Parish, Louisiana, to Wiley Lanis and Lou Retta Mercer Womack. She attended Chatham High School in Chatham, Louisiana. When she was 12 years old, she joined First Baptist Church in Chatham. She moved to La Porte in 1958 and moved her church membership to the La Porte Baptist Church. She later moved her membership to Lomax Baptist Church in La Porte, where she taught primary Sunday school class. In April, 1971, she moved her membership to La Grange Baptist Church. On April 17, 1971, she was married to Hugo Neidig at Lomax Baptist Church in La Porte and then moved to Round Top. While in La Porte, she was the assistant manager of the McLemore Chain Stores for 4 1/2 years and then for Minamax Grocery chain for 17 years. Survivors include her brother, Robert Keith Womack of Chatham, Louisiana; and numerous nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Bennie Lee Fussell; her husband, Hugo Neidig; and sister, Vernice Smith. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 13 at Foehner Funeral Home in Burton. A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Mayer Cemetery, near Round Top, with Pastor John David Nedbalek officiating.
