Zoe Catherine Lehmann Nonemaker died on February 5, 2025, at St. Joseph's Hospital at College Station, Texas, from a recurring medical condition that took her from her beloved Nonesuch homestead in Hempstead, Texas. She was born October 5, 1935 at her family's home, 549 East Third Avenue, Roselle, New Jersey, the fourth child and only daughter of Zoe Eleanor Pegg Lehmann and Judge Louis C. Lehmann, Jr.
Zoe graduated from Abraham Clark High School in Roselle and attended Douglass College (formerly New Jersey College) in New Brunswick, New Jersey, Class of 1957.
While at Douglas Colleges, Zoe met her Rutgers' man, James Aulton Nonemaker. Zoe and Jim married at Wesley Methodist Church in Roselle on June 25, 1955. They celebrated 31 years of marriage in 1986.
Zoe was a resident of Houston from 1962 to 1990. In 1990 she moved to Nonesuch to write; she wrote the bi-weekly column, "Nonesuch," for the Waller County News Citizen in Hempstead from 1992.
She was preceded in death by her husband James, by her parents, and by her brothers, Louis C. Lehmann III, Charles E. Lehmann, and Robert W. Lehmann. She is survived by her brother Richard L. Lehmann of Peyton, Colorado, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, cousins, and faithful friends.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday, February 17, 2025 at Brenham Presbyterian Church. Pastor Janell Blair will officiate.
