Donald Huebner

Donald Otto Huebner was born in Bellville, Texas on May 28, 1944 to Otto Carl and Meta (Emshoff) Huebner.  Raised in the New Bremen area outside of Industry, Don was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Welcome, Texas.  He graduated Bellville High School.  He met Betty, the love of his life, in 1st grade, and they were married on October 12, 1963.  Don and Betty were blessed with three sons – Terry, Todd, and Tim.  Don attended Sam Houston State University and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration.  After graduation, he worked for Robert Schroeder, CPA, Brenham Wholesale Grocery, where he was also on the board of directors, and then Industry State Bank.  After he retired from the bank, he continued to sell insurance through Germania until he fully retired when he was 75.   Don was a director of the West End Water Board, a member and an officer of Harmonie Hall for more than 40 years, a member and officer of the Shelby Hermann Sons Life, a member of Shelby Volunteer Fire Department, and he was a founding member of the Brenham FFA Booster Club.

Don also attended a monthly “prayer meeting” in Warrenton.  Don loved his family and was very proud of their sons, Terry, Todd and Tim. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and sharing stories about them. He enjoyed working with his cattle, traveling, going to dances, and spending time with his family and friends, and especially at the Fredericksburg horse races. Don also really enjoyed deer hunting and spent almost every first weekend of November in Fredericksburg with his hunting buddies.

Don is survived by his wife Betty, sons and daughters-in-law; Terry of Brenham, Todd (Deanne) of College Station, Tim (Amy) of Brenham.  Grandchildren; Laine Huebner, Bryce and Eric Golden, Dane Gross and Brittany Blythe.  Great-Grandchildren; Jacob Golden, Eva Golden, Tyler Lehmann, and River Gross and numerous nieces and nephews. Brother-in-law; L.G. Albright. Brother-in-law and sister-in-law; David and Kelly Weinert.

He is preceded in death by his parents and in-laws; Otto Carl and Meta (Emshoff) Huebner, and W.C. and Lydia Weinert.  Sister and brother-in-law; Carolyn and Cleburn Cordes, and sister-in-law Lois Albright.

Pallbearers will be Tanner Weinert, Jeremy Hasty, Chris Gorrebeeck, David Cordes, Rodney Goebel and Scottie Schubert.

A visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 21, 2022 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Shelby with Pastor John David Nedbalek officiating. Burial will follow at the Shelby Cemetery.
