Evelyn Lueckemeyer

October 28, 1926 — March 12, 2021

Brenham

Evelyn Lueckemeyer passed away on Friday, March 12th at Kruse Village Covid Unit, after contracting the disease at Focus Care, Brenham following a massive stroke.

Visitation will be held from 7:00am - 8:00pm Thursday, March 18th at Memorial Oaks Chapel, Brenham, with the family present from 5:00 – 7:00pm.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 19th at 10:00am at St Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Brenham with Pastor Phil Geleske presiding. Burial to follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery, Brenham.

Due to COVID-19, masks and social distancing will be required during the services.

Evelyn was born on October 28th, 1926 to Willie and Clara (Quebe) Wiethorn. She was educated at Prairie Hill school and was baptized and confirmed at St John’s Lutheran Church. She married Woodrow Lueckemeyer on December 22, 1946.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 59 years, and her sister, Esther Preuss.

She joined St. Paul’s church after marriage where she volunteered in many capacities through the years, serving on the Altar Guild, helping with vacation bible school, and the youth group. For over 30 years she helped fold, assemble, and mail the church newsletters.

She enjoyed sewing and made all of her four daughters’ clothes- everything from school clothes, to prom gowns, to Maifest costumes. When failing eyesight made it impossible to sew any longer, she turned her creative talents to baking, becoming famous for both her cookies and her generosity in sharing them.

She enjoyed trying new recipes and loved to put her own spin on dishes.

She loved to laugh and enjoyed listening to her kids and grandkids joke, tease, and cut up. She was a favorite target of their teasing and storytelling, at which she laughed harder than anyone else…

She is survived by her children, Claudia and Wayne Giese of Brenham; Trish and Bryan Felt of Houston; Donna Lueckemeyer of Brenham; Shelia Lueckemeyer of Houston. Grandchildren Sheridan and Jeff Slocumb of Houston; Erin Giese of Bryan; Eric Giese of Brenham; Elizabeth Strangmeyer of Houston; and great-grandson Jeremy Slocumb and special friend Hanna Herzog of Dallas. Sister-in-law Willie Mae Lueckemeyer of Brenham and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Kruse Village Covid unit for their kind and compassionate care during our mother’s final days. We would also like to thank Amedysis Hospice Care, especially Cecilia and Marissa.

The family request that memorials be made to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main Street, Brenham, TX 77833.
